YUEN Ka Keung - Olympic Gymnastics Judge & Coach Technical Manager

As the first ever Hong Kong Olympic Gymnastics Judge , I pursue my life-long study in Gymnastics. 

I became a PhD Candidate in Sport, Leisure and Hospitality Management in Taipei and Master of Sport Administration of Russian International Olympic University in Sochi, the Winter Olympic City.
 

I devoted to promote gymnastics development worldwide. I applied my knowledge and experience gained from the leading Gymnastics countries, including former Soviet Union countries, China, Japan and etc, to assist and develop many potential and elite athletes to the major international competitions and Olympics.

During 2020, I joined “Inovian Sport Training”. My coaching principle is to achieve scientific training methodology, injury prevention, assurance physical and mental healthy. To equip all potential gymnasts to be the future elite gymnasts, and to inspire and develop them to be the Olympians.

Also, I have solid international gymnastics network to arrange different overseas training and competitions, in order to explore the insight of our future Olympians.

My Gymnastics Journey is a special story. It contains full of the inspiration from gymnastics legends worldwide, and exploration of new and unique. I devoted to Inspire and motivate those with a heart to create the future. 

BIOGRAPHY

1999

Beginning of coaching & judging career

After achieved the All-Hong Kong Secondary School Individual Trampoline Champion, our Technical Manager YUEN started his work as Assistant Coach in C.C.C. Ming Kei College Trampoline School Team. He was inspired by Chinese Gymnastics Legend LI Ning and his teacher LEE Hon Tim and devoted to be a gymnastics coach and judge. He started to receive intensive training in gymnastics coaching and judging under two Chinese experts Prof. WU Faat Cheung (Beijing Sports University) and Prof He Xin Guang (Guangzhou Sports University).

2001

Start of my International Judge career

After two-year intensive study, YUEN obtained his first FIG International Judge Brevet in Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG). Chinese gymnastics legend LI Ning issued the certificate to him.

2002

Second International Judge

YUEN obtained another FIG International Judge Brevet in Trampoline and Tumbling. He became the first ever tumbling international judge in Hong Kong

2004

YMCA Coach

YUEN started his position as a Trampoline and Gymnastics Coach in the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong. During his thirteen-year coaching in YMCA, he developed four trampolinists to be the champion and medalists in the local championships, and trained many athletes in other sport (Diving, Skiing, Wushu, Fencing, Track and Field and etc.) to enhance their performance

2006

YUEN upgraded his FIG International Judge Brevet in MAG to Cat. 2 to become a candidate to Olympic Judge.

2010

First Asian Games Judging

YUEN was appointed by Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) as the International Technical Official (ITO) at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. He started to study advanced gymnastics judging skills under Taiwanese Olympic Judge Prof. CHEN Ming-Yao.

2012

1st ever Olympic Gymnastics Judge in Hong Kong History

After YUEN successfully judged the London Olympics Test Event, he was selected by FIG as the ITO (Execution Judge) at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. He became the first ever Olympic Gymnastics Judge in Hong Kong Gymnastics.

2013

Cat.1 Gymnastics Judge

A year after participated the Bratislava Intercontinental Judge’s Course, YUEN became one of the only twenty-five Cat.1 MAG Judges in the world. He was the first ever Hong Kong Gymnastics Judge to achieve this honour. During summer, he represented Hong Kong as the Execution Judge at the 2013 Kazan Summer Universiade in Russia. He started to study Russian Language in order to have a better understanding to the Soviet and Russian Gymnastics and Sport Culture.

2014

Youth Olympic Games

YUEN was appointed by FIG as the ITO (Difficulty Judge) at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. He also appointed by AGU as the ITO (Difficulty Judge and Apparatus Supervisor) at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

2015

1st HK FIG World Champ Reference Judge

YUEN was appointed by FIG as the “Reference Judge” at the 2015 Glasgow World Championships. He became the first ever World Championships “FIG Judge” in the Hong Kong Gymnastics History

2016

FIG Academy & Rio Olympics

Under the teaching of Japanese expert Takashi Kobayashi, YUEN obtained FIG Academy L1 MAG Coach Qualification. Afterward, he represented Hong Kong again as ITO (Execution Judge) at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games.

2017

Study in Russia

After his judging at the Taipei Summer Universiade, YUEN received the scholarships to study the “Master of Sport Administration” at the “Russian International Olympic University” in Sochi, Russian Federation

2018

Working in Georgia, Russia & Qatar

After graduated the Master degree, YUEN continued to study Russian Language. He also worked as guest coach in the Georgian Artistic Gymnastics National Team in Tbilisi, Georgia. And appointed by FIG as the “Reference Judge” at the Doha World Championships. Afterward, he was invited to work at the Mikhail Voronin Cup in Moscow.

2019

Working in Armenia & Belarus

After YUEN met with the Gymnastics Legend Albert Azaryan at the “Albert Azaryan Olympic Gymnastics School” in Yerevan. He was occasionally as Guest Coach in Armenian Artistic Gymnastics National Team. During the summer, He was invited to assist the Belarusian Gymnastics Association (BGA) to organize the Artistic Gymnastics Competition in the 2019 Minsk Second European Games.

2020

Joined Inovian Sport Training

YUEN studied trampoline coaching technique from Soviet and Russian Five-time Trampoline World Champion Igor Bogachev in Krasnodar. After he completed his Russian Language study in Sochi, He visited Turkish National Team in Izmir and worked in the Georgian Artistic Gymnastics National Team to prepare the World Cup. After his last work in AGF Trophy International Tournament and Baku World Cup in Azerbaijan, he returned to Hong Kong and joined Inovian Sport Training.

2021

PhD study & Coaching in Taipei

YUEN started another journey in Taipei to pursue his PhD study. He also worked as a Trampoline and Gymnastics Coach in the Taipei Municipal Datong High School and Kid Power Gymnastics Club. He also presented Hong Kong as a judge at the Kitakyushu World Championships

2022

Best-six Judge in World Champ

YUEN represented Hong Kong as an Execution Judge at the 2022 Liverpool World Championships. He awarded the “best-six MAG judge” title.

2023

Develop future Olympians

YUEN designed a strategy to help Hong Kong Olympic Gymnast SHEK Wai Hung for qualifying to Paris Olympics. He supported him without hesitation by acting as Execution Judge at the Antwerp World Championships, and withdrew the Hangzhou Asian Games. On the other hand, YUEN assisted the Egyptian Wushu African champion Adel Omar to prepared for the Wushu World Championships in Fort Worth (USA). He became the finalist at the 2024 Kazan BRICS Games.

2024

Excellence Judging at Paris Olympics

YUEN developed two pre-junior trampolinists to qualify to the 1st Asian Trampoline Age Group Competition. They awarded 4th and 7th in Boy and Girl 11-12 respectively. YUEN was designated by FIG again as the ITO (Execution Judge) at Paris Olympics. After his fourth Olympics, his performance was recognized by FIG to award “Excellence in Judging” Honour.

2025

PhD Journey in Gymnastics 

YUEN became a PhD candidate in Sport, Leisure and Hospitality  Management. His research topie is about performance analysis and competition strategy in Men's Vault at the World Championships and Olympics. During summer, he presented his research paper at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World Conference in Germany. Afterward, he was appointed as University Professor to teaching sport business course at the international exchange programmes.

2026

Develop World Level Junior Gymnast

YUEN develop another junior trampolinist to be an international athlete and achieved the first international trampoline medal,. His trampolinist awarded the Silver medal at the 2026 Singapore Open. And selected as the national team member to the 2026 Nanjing Trampoline World Age Group Competition and 3rd Junior World Championships.
